STATEMENT OF THE ASIA CAUSE LAWYERS NETWORK
We the members of the Asia Cause Lawyers Network view with grave concern the recent actions against the judiciary and the?legal community in Pakistan. An independent Judiciary& a Bar and a free Press are the hallmarks of a Democracy. The arrests of judges, lawyers, journalists, human rights activists and political opponents for protesting to protect Rule of Law and against suspension of people’s freedoms is a direct assault on Democracy and we deplore such actions. The ASIA CAUSE LAWYERS NETWORK stands in solidarity with the members of the judiciary, legal fraternity, the media & the civil society of Pakistan in this hour of crisis. We call for immediate release of those arrested as a first step to restoration of the Rule of Law and call upon the civil society all over the world to stand united with the people of Pakistan to resist the erosions to their freedom and demand the immediate release of those arrested as a first step towards restoration of Rule of Law.
